One of the resources I have been taking advantage of as a member of the Pagan Business Network is the use of trades.  I will trade some of my products with members of the network for some of their products and or services.  The other part of the exchange is that I write a review about my experiences with the products and then share it around.  The products in the above photo are some that I traded for and this is my review.

Customer service

Before I get into how the products worked for me and my experience with the products I want to spend some time talking about the customer service this company provides.   One thing I asked about was if they planned on getting different labels that included the ingredients on them.  They responded happily with a thank you for the suggestion and that it was something they had in fact been thinking of doing.  When I mentioned to keep the information insert as well they were happy to know that the information on the sheet was useful in educating people about the reasons behind why the herbs worked for this product.

The best experience I had with this business was when I asked about a specific product.  I get headaches frequently while I am working.  Its not just from the stress but also from my eyes, anxiety, caffinee and or lack of water.  So I wanted to have the balm with me at work.  When I opened it for the first time this balm was essentially liquid.  It exploded basically everywhere.  I lost a bunch to my clothes and the counter.

I asked the owner about this.  She was shocked to hear about it.  As soon as she was able to she sent me another batch of the balm.  This time when I opened it I could use it and it was solid.  The fact that she sent me a brand new free batch was great.  I was thrilled.  I tried it later that night and was happy with the results.  So I have to give them two thumbs up on customer service.

Pain Free Balm

Meadowlark Pain releif cream

At first I was disappointed in this balm.  It did not have immediate effect which is what I am used to.  A similar holistic product I use has an almost instant relief to it without needing a deep massage.  I decided though that I would give it an extended try.  During this extended trial I applied the cream with a massage to the very specific location rather than the general location.  Once I started applying it with a massage and to specific points rather than general points I was able to get the relief that I was used to.  It lasts for me about 4-5 hours.  After that I need to apply it again.

My issue with this item is that it stains.  Before I used this cream I had no yellow stains on my blanket.  This cream left stains on the blanket.  This was with me rubbing it and massaging the balm into my skin and the effected areas as much as I could.  Even then the little oil left on the top layer of skin still stained my blankets.  It also stained my underwear long the edges where my legs would have touched it.

The other issue I have was the strong menthol scent.  It was overpowering.  One day I applied it to my knees before work so I could be comfortable at work.  My fiance’ commented that the scent was too strong and to not use that again.  I have tried to use less, but the scent is still overpowering.  Yes it is effective but its stronger than the almost pure menthol product I buy for my fiance’ from the store.

Foot Cream

Meadowlark foot cream

With my day job I am on my feet all day.  I run around the store helping customers find what they are looking for.  When not putting away stock, putting away put-backs /unpurchased items, or helping customers find products I am standing in place at the register.  My feet are sore after a days work.  This product here is a wonderful treat for my feet.

I have found that this helps relax my muscles after a day of working.  It doesn’t relieve the pain persay but it does help my feet to relax.  By rubbing my feet with this balm after a long day of work I also relieve some of my stress from the shift.  A lot of stress is held in the feet.

In order to relieve the pain I am feeling in my arches I typically add a small batch of the pain free balm that was mentioned earlier.  I’d actually like to see the two combined so you have stress and pain relief that can be applied to all muscles not just the feet.  Perhaps they will take that into consideration.

Headache Balm

Meadowlark Headache balm

This year I have started to deal with headaches far more often than I ever did before.  One of the main headache issues I have had have been sinus related.  This balm when I tried it in a liquid form was the only thing that has worked for my sinus pressure and pain without congestion. I applied a small drop to the bridge of my nose and felt instant relief.

The menthol and mint oils are high in this mixture so my eyes did water a bit.  My suggestion would be to find a variation on this recipe that uses a little less mint and menthol and maybe add a few congestion or sinus oils.  That way you can have a product for sinus headaches and sinus pressure as well.

The only other thing I have to say is that it works just as well for day to day headaches.  I apply a bit to my temples, the base of the neck, and my third eye.  For me this helps me release all my pressure for my headaches.  Often times they are in the front of the brain which is why I use the third eye chakra as a position to place the balm in.  I only use a little bit though as too much wil make your eyes water from the mint and menthol.

Lavender Hand Cream

Meadowlark lavender hand cream

This is an item that was actually a surprise for me.  It was not an item that I had asked for in the trade.  She included it as a free gift sample for which I am very thankful.  I will probably be ordering a batch of this for myself when my sample size is done.  I’ve had this sample for months and I am still working with it.  Its hard for me to find hand or body lotions that I can actually use due to my sensitive skin.  This is one of the ones I can use.  I’m glad I have it.  I will use it for a while longer.  Like I said it is one of the few lotions I have been able to find for myself that works and I enjoy the scent and feel of.

Conclusion & Remarks

Many of the issues I had are my own for not reading the directions as best as I could.  The owner of this business did send paper work on each of the products given to me.  While it doesn’t mention that the Tumeric in the pain relief cream can stain, it does mention its best applied to specific points rather than a general area.  Had I paid more attention to the entire paperwork I would have had faster results with the Pain Free Cream.  They also warned about the peppermint in the headache balm and not going near the eyes for that reason.

This business owner is very well educated on their products and services.  The information sheet goes into detail about the herbs chosen for the products and why they work.    In some cases they even mention this history of the herbs use in medicinal practices and from which cultures they were used in.  They know not only their products but their particular service well.  They are very professional and work hard to get their business seen and known.

If you are looking for vegetarian organic homeopathic products then this is the company for you.  Its well made and the containers are perfect for the product.  Packages are neat and professional looking.  Everything works as they say it does, just be sure to read the directions carefully or you may miss information like I did.

Product Review: Flippin Fibro/ MAGI balm set

Magic Balm and Flippin Fibro set

I love homeopathic products.  I love natural healing.  This company had great products that are easy to work with.  They smell nice and they are highly effective.  These two particular items are going on my favorites list and are used in most of my day to day life in some way shape or form.  In many cases lately I would not have been able to sleep through the night without one or both of these!

I got these two items for review.  I was looking for something to help with my bruises (I bruise very easily) and my restless legs.  I was sick of waking up every morning with new bruises on my legs from kicking myself in the night.  I was sick of getting strange looks and stares at my legs when I wore shorts or shorter skirts.    Most of all I was sick of kicking my fiance’ in the night and not knowing it.

Many people posted products and suggestions for me to try.  For some reason these were the two that spoke to me the most and now I know why.  They work!  They work great as a set and quite well individually.  I am really glad that I got to try these two items, and I know I will be buying this set myself.

Flippin FibroI use this for my restless legs and it works great.  When I first got the oil I used one dropper per leg every night for two weeks.  The restless legs basically stopped.  Now I feel like I no longer need to apply it to my legs every night.  I lie down in bed and if after 5 minutes my legs are settled and not restless I know I wont need to apply the oil.  If my legs wont stop moving or can’t seem to get comfortable then I know I need to use the oil.  In the two months I have had this oil I went from needing it every night to now once or twice a week maybe.  I can say that thanks to this I now have restful nights sleep 🙂  You can get yours here: Flippin Fibro Aromatherapy Oil

Magi BalmThe Magic balm is probably the most used out of the set.  As the balm says its great for muscle pain.  I use it on my feet and arches before and after work and it keeps my feet from being incredibly painful after shifts at my day job.  I’ve used it on my fiance’ when his legs were bothering him and it helped him quite a bit.  Which is great as his skin is incredibly sensitive and he has no reactions to this product.  So if you have sensitive skin then this product could work well for you.

What I did like was trying this to help prevent my heat rashes from developing.  Right in the underwire during the summer I tend to get bad heat rashes there.  They itch and they drive me insane.  The only thing I’ve been able to use in the past to help them is baby powder to keep them dry.  Well not any more.  Now I have this Magi balm.  I applied a small bit when the rash started and the next day it was essentially gone.

If you get rashes, have sore muscles, or have arthritis I suggest you get yourself some of this balm and try it our yourself!  You will not regret it!  Get yours today: Magi Balm

Product Review: Nasal Decongestant By Sages Aromatherapy

Nasal DecongestantToday I am going to be talking to you about one of my favorite products.  This is a holistic and natural herbal remedy that works great.  I’ve tried many different products to help with my congestion and other issues.  None of them have worked as well as this one balm.  Sages Aromatherapy knew what they were doing when they started to create this blend.

This year has been terrible for allergies for everyone.  Its been worse for people like me who suffer from asthma as well.  So I’m always a bit wheezy and stuffy from my asthma and general environmental allergies.  My allergies and congestion are so bad at times that I end up feeling like I am going to puke in the morning in order to get rid of everything that slipped down in the night.
To be honest the only thing that ever actually helped me get rid of phlegm and congestion before was the max dose of Mucinex.  And I’d have to take it everyday when they even recommend not taking it more than 7 days without seeing doctors. I would mention it to my Doctors and nothing would help and they continued to say if the mucinex works just keep working with it.  Not only is the stuff expensive but it can also taste terrible if it gets stuck on the tongue while you try and swallow the large pills.  I grew really tiered of taking it twice a day to just be able to breathe and live without feeling physically ill every morning.

Hot shower before bed were one thing I tried but with post nasal drip it just seemed to give the nasal passages more phlem for the following morning.  In the middle of the winter I started to try working with Eucalyptus oil alone and that helped quite a bit but it still felt like there had to be something better out there that was natural like Eucalyptus oil that I could use and have it be more effective.  The Eucalyptus oil helped me be able to breathe at night but there was still phlem in the morning, breathable and non ill feeling phlem but it was still there.

Now a few months ago I was gathering raffle items for the Maine Pagan Unity Day in Portland Maine.  Many members of the Pagan Business Network sent items to be sold at the raffle for a fundraiser for Maine Pagan Unity Day.   As I was gathering several items together I personally snagged a few items from various providers that I personally was attracted to and wanted to give a chance.  This Nasal Decongestant was one of the few small items I grabbed for myself.  And I am so glad that I did.

I applied I little to my chest only at night for a week and the results were amazing.  Not only could I breathe but I didn’t feel like there was any phlem there.  I coughed a little in the morning but there was no phlem.  No sounds of gurgling and not sounds of hacking.  I actually felt healthy and like I was normal.  A week later I added the balm to my feet as the jar suggested and I couldn’t believe how much it helped me.  I felt like I was a different person.  It seemed as it there were no barriers to my breathing at all.

The more I used this item the less I seemed to need my controller inhaler and my rescue inhaler.  In fact most days now unless its extremely humid I really only seem to need my controller just in the morning.  Even my use of the rescue/exercise inhaler has dropped substantially.  Unless I am going to be doing a lot of physical work (exercise or vacuuming the CVS I work at) I really dont need either of them in my day to day life.  I am not advocating to stop using inhalers if you use them.  Far from it.  Mine are still essential to my life, I just relay on them maybe once a day instead of 4-5 times a day.

The last few weeks allergies have been dull and down so I have not used them as much as I have in the past.  However in the next few weeks fall allergies will be all over.  So I know I will be using this balm for myself again.  I don’t leave home without it.  Its in my daily meds and first aid I carry with me everywhere.  Just knowing that I can use the balm if and when I need it is an amazing relief.  And it feels relaxing when you put it on too!

Starting with Powdered Incense and Magical Powders

Starting to work with Magical Incense and Powders

An introduction to Powdered Incense and Magical Powders

Who I am and Why I do this

My name is Loona Wynds.  I have been a practicing with for many years.  I started as a teenager.  At the time the only incense that was available to me for my spell work was the commercial large brands I could find at the local music store.  Which for me at the time was great.  Once and a while I was get a chance to go to a Hippy shop where I could buy Frankincense sticks, Myrrh, and my favorite Dragons Blood.  These worked fine for a 13 year old who was just starting out on her journey in witchcraft but after working with them for 5 years things changed.

Most of the commercial incense (not Nag Champa) use synthetic scents.  These are chemicals whose scents mimic natural scents from herbs and resins, and for some people these are fine.  However my fiance can not breathe with those types of scents burning.  Not wanting to stop my ritual work and my spell work I started to get supplies to craft and make my own powdered natural incense.

This was 10 years ago.  I would only make some incense as I needed it now.  I would store the rest for future use.  This for me just meant more trips to the Leapin Lizards, the local metaphysical store for new herbs and resins for different blends.  Making incense for me made me feel at my witchiest.

I was in control of all the energy in the blend.  I was the one who was able to blend, mix, and shape the energetic forces of the incense to do as I willed.  I got into a trance and I could really feel that the incense was in fact a spell in the making.  The grinding of the resins and flowers or roots together put the physical energy of my desire into the work which lead to manifestation.  This was how I started to understand the real essence of herbal magic.

I’m going to be honest right here and right now.  I never once used a recipe for my incenses.  I never once had a book top guide me in the steps.  My only resources were the herbal packets themselves which had properties and uses on the back and Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Herbs.   I was purely using my intuition, my inner knowing as the old conjureers call it.  So all of my blends were unique.  They were never the same twice, and at the time I didn’t bother to record what I was doing as they were all experiments of the spiritual science of magical herbalism and spiritual aromatherapy.

3 years ago My fiance noticed that though I was trying really hard I was simply not able to find a job.  I applied everywhere and I even had a few interviews.  Nothing was working.  One of my dreams has always been to have my own Metaphysical shop where I could sell supplies to people on their spiritual journeys and help them grow as a witch or pagan or what ever they identified as.

We had been told that because of me history I may be able to get a grant through the Small Business Development center.  I talked to my worker helping me find work and we decided to try to go this route.  After doing a test market of my tinctures, incenses, and some basic herbs I was able to prove that this was a dream that would work.  And now with their help I have come to be able to make and sell the incenses and powders that I do.

Why work with powdered incense?

The most original form of incense is pure herbal incense.  The witches, priests, shamans, and magic workers would dry plants and herbs and throw them on the fire for an effect during ritual.  Over time they created different herbal combinations for different rituals and workings.  From there they developed working with small batches for an individual working rather than a full community ritual.  These small batches are how witches continue to work.

By working with the loose herbal and resin form of incense you can control the power of the essence more effectively.  You are also able to communicate with the spirits of the plants.  While they have been dried and harvested the dried plants are like the bone of a person.  They still contain aspects of the plants spirit and essence.  When we make powdered incenses for spell and ritual work it is this essence that we are tapping into.  It is this part of the plants spirit we are working with.

While most incense stick may have some traces of essential oils in the blends you are not dealing with a pure plant essence.  You are simply dealing with the chemical concoctions.  To get a connection with the natural essence of the plant you want to work with dried plants that you either gather yourself (the best option) or buy from a reputable supplier.  Otherwise you may not even be talking to or working with the plant spirit.

In essence witches work with the spirits of the plants they work with.  Using powdered incense that you make yourself is one of the best ways that you can start working with the plant spirits.  You can feel them, speak to them, and get a sense for their energetic properties.  Over time the more you work with the plants the more they will teach you about them and working with them.  I worked with marigold for years in spell work and incense before it revealed its uses in money, finance, and succsess work.  Prior to that most of my work had been with the healing attributes and the psychic development attributes and its still one of my main go to for those works.

What are Magical Powders?

Magical powders are not as common in witchcraft as they are in Hoodoo and other folklore and folk magic tradition.  Powders are a very effective way to work magic without being seen or known.  Powders are effective because they work in silence and in the shadows without much fuss or muss.  You are simply sprinkling a mixture around an area or on an object and letting the powder do the work.

In magical powders it really is the spirit of the plants that are doing the work.  While incense send the words and prayers up to Gods and spirits other than the plant spirits, powders are direct to the earth.  Its just the plants, your intent, and mother earth that makes things work.  In magical powders you are really relying on the inner conjure power of the plants and of their spirits.  They will work for you if you are respectful to them.

Not all magical powders are plant matter though.  Several powders like Red brick dust, and grave yard dirt are not based on plant matter but on the organic matter of them.   They are still full of power because of the spirits in them.  The spirit of the place is an important aspect of gathering these powders.

Grave yard dirt is gathered at the cemetery and used in rituals depending on the grave it came from.  This dirt can contain plant matter but in essence instead of the plants you are working with the spirit from the grave where you took the dirt from while.  This is why it s important to do research on the grave you take the dirt from and give them an offering.  It is also for this reason that most people will gather graveyard dirt from the cemeteries of their ancestors or beloved dead.

Powders like Hotfoot and black salt are often made with herbs as well as other items.  In these powders it is still the plant spirits that are working for you, but it is also your intention in the work. Your desire and knowing that the work will be done that makes it work.  The herbs are what boost the intent for the powder and it is sprinkling them onto the earth or object that makes it work.

Why you should make your own

Making your own incense and powders is one of the best things you can do in magic and witchcraft. I say this because it allows you to really control the power and the intent in the product.  No one else but you really knows what type of healing you need done or what your money issues are.  By making your own you can really be the magic and be the power behind the working.

It is important to remember that intent is everything in magic and witchcraft.  When you start to make your own blends you get to put your emotional state and your intent into the product from the very beginning.  You are asking the spirits of the plants to aid you in this work and lend their power to your working.  By stating this while you blend and grind the power gets transferred and the energy mixes very well.

While you can use products that have been pre-charged and made by others you will not have as much control over the energy in the product.  They will not have your emotional connection to the spell or working you are trying to do.  The creator of the incense or powder can ask the spirits of the plants to charge the creation for a specific purpose and it will work, just not as effective.  They will put their own emotional charge into the work as their blessing but without your own inner emotional force it is missing and aspect to be as effective as it can be.

You are the magic.  It is your will that directs magic. This is why even when buying stuff from a store you will need to spend your own emotional energy as you do the work.  You will have to make sure that all of your energy gets into the working so that the spirits know your desire and can work for your intent.  This is why in the end I prefer to make all my own products.  It has my partnership with the plant spirits starting from the moment I choose the herbs.

 Tools of the Trade

There are several different tools involved in making incense and powders.  You have the Mortar and Pestle, the scale, a mixing bowl, wand, yourself, bags and or containers, and of course the herbs, resins, and essential oils that you wish to work with.  Each of these tools plays a central part in creating your own unique blends of incenses and powders.

The most important tool is the Mortar and Pestal.  Right now I do not have any in stock but my friend does at his shop: Mortar and Pestle.  The mortar and Pestle is how you actually grind and blend the herbs in the incense and powder making.  You choose the herbs, weigh the amounts out and grind them.  Some people grind them one at a time and then place everything in a mixing bowl for a final blending with hands or a wand.  Other people will blend and grind them all within the Mortar and Pestle.  My advice is to start with one herb at a time.  Once you get a feel for the power it takes to grind the herbs in this fashion you can add more herbs to the blend at a time.

Mortar and Pestal Via Phoenix Rising Apothecary

The next tool you need are baggies or some sort of storage container.  Once you have made your incense any that you do not burn in a spell or ritual (and a little of homemade magic goes along ways) you will want to be able to store it.  This is the reason I keep most pickle, salsa, and jelly jars.  I can us it for storage of incense, powders, and other blends.  You never know when you will want to do a particular ritual again so it is important to know you can use the same blend again.

You also want to have some sort of paper to record what you did.  This way you will know what you made and be able to make it again if it work perfectly.  If something did not work well (and not every blend works out perfectly the first time) you want to look at what you did so you can try and tweak the recipe and make changes.  This is also a good way to track any manifestations from the work.

A mixing bowl is great if you only have a small mortar and pestle and need more space to blend your herbal mixture.   In this you can fold and mix and blend the herbs ground or not to your hearts content.  I typically do a mixture of using a wand or using my hands.  The wands are great at blasting a direct force of energy into the mixture while my hands do a subtle constant exchange through my personal touch.

One of the reasons I like to use my hands is that I get a direct personal connection with the herbs that I am working with.  As I dig into the herbs I can feel them mix and I can feel the energy as they blend.  I can feel the plants talking together about the purpose and mingling to the best of their abilities.  It also lets me connect with the first witch, the earth mother as all plants are small representatives of the Earth mother.

Unless you are following a specific recipe you really dont need a scale or measuring devices.  If you are following your intuition you can just work with what feels right.  In Mystic Echoes because of the large amount of product I create in a single sitting I weigh the ingredients out by the ounce.  For your own personal use if you want to keep accurate records tablespoons or teaspoons are all you are going to need.

Finally you need to have the herbs.  Your herbs, resins, and essential oils are the most important part of the process.  With out the herbs, essential oils, and resins you will not have any sort of incense and powder.  These are what make your blend your own.  There are hundreds of herbs out there many with similar properties.  It is your personal choice of the herbs you work with and in what amounts that will make your incense blends really your own.

Choosing the Herbs and essences

The herbs are what make up your powder and your incense. So it is important to choose the right herbs for the right blend.  In two follow up posts I am going to give recipes for a protect your love powder and a love incense.  For now we will cover resources and how to choose the herb to work with for your unique products.

There are many uses for many different herbs on the market.  One of my favorites Dragonsblood (which is a resin) can be used for protection, but also love, lust, money, exorcism, and power.  Its also an offering specific to Dragon spirits.  Another herb Angelica root has Angelic Work, Protection, Hex Removal,Exorcisms, Health, Meditation, and Divination as associations.  Every herb on the market has properties that make them versatile in spell work and in ritual work.

So how do you choose?  One of the things I do is I look up a few recipes in the various book resources I have.  I then write down the recipies that appeal to me.  After having 3 or 4 different recipes I see what is common in them and what is different.  I write down all the herbs that are mentioned and go from there.  This is where my intuition and working with the spirit comes into play.  This is where I let the spirit of the plants guide me.

Once I have a few guides to look at I see what the herbs themselves have to tell me.  More often than not the blend I end up with is different than the one that I had intended to use.  I can see a lust recipe and start working with the herbs I thought might be good and half way through the creation I get a message from an herb “hey your supposed to use me” or a sensation that another plant would work better in the blend.  So I put aside the herb I was going to use and grab the one that told me to work with it.

For those who are new to working with incenses and powders my advice is to actually follow a recipe unless something tells you very strongly to use something else.  In this case many of the books that have recipes and associations with herbs and oils will have replacements or herbs that can be used interchangeably.

This is where many people can start to panic.  They might not have the exotic herbs like Dragons Blood or Angelica root.  But they have something like Basil and black pepper in their kitchen cabinet.  Often times I get asked can I use the same herbs I use in cooking for magic?  And my response is very much yes!  Cinnamon is a good example here.  Cinnamon has properties of money, luck, love, lust, protection, and prosperity.  Black pepper has protection, removal, and magical offense properties.  Your kitchen cabinet has many magical options for you.

This is my point here.  Use what you have on hand.  In the ancient times the witches and priests only had what they could gather locally in the woods or that they could grow in their gardens.  If its something you have in your home I guarantee you can use it in incense or powders.  By doing this you are also well on your way to learning about kitchen witchcraft as well.  I will cover kitchen witchcraft herbs and kitchen witchcraft spells in another post but for now I’ll make the point clear again.  Use what you have on hand.

Working with powders and Loose Herbal Incense

Working with loose herbal incense does require a few additional tools.  You need to have charcoal discs and a censor to burn the charcoal disc in.

Censors and charcoal can be bought from me here:
Medium censors via Mystic Echoes  & Charcoal discs via Mystic Echoes

Lighting the charcoal can be done with any lighter but I personally recommend these aim & flames: Aim & Flame

Aim & Flame Via Mystic Echoes

The reason I suggest you use those longer lighters is that the charcoal discs spark when they are being lit.  It is these sparks across the disc that actually start it burning.  Once it has been sparking you will see a red ring around the charcoal.  Using tongs place it in the censor and sprinkle the incense on the disc as needed for the spell or ritual.  Now your incense is being used in a spell or formal ritual work.

Powdered incense or loose herbal incense can be used in more than just formal rituals.  You can use them as powders sprinkling them in packets, satchets, or around properties.  They can also be used as incense by being burned for offerings to spirits and the Gods.  In rituals they provide atmosphere and make the place feel and seem sacred.

The best way I have found to work with powdered and loose herbal incsnes is both as a powder and as an incense.  When yuo burn the incense your intent is carried by the smoke to the spirits of the air and to the universe via your prayer and charge into the incense when you light it.  Adding it to packets or rubbing the powder on candles will continue the effect and allow another way for the energy of the incense to work.

All of the powdered incenses found at Mystic Echoes:Loose herbal incense & magical Powders by Mystic Echoes can be used as a powder or as an incense. They are very versatile.

Powdered incense has one final beneficial use. There are some incense blends like the Happiness Blend and the Stress Relief blends which can be used as aromatherapy. By buring certain scents a person can heal and change their emotional state. This is one of the benefits of powdered and herbal incense. Variations of the Healing Incense would be burned during many healing ritual baths and they would be one of the best aspects of the bath-the soothing scent and caress of the spirits of the plants aiding me in my healing work.

Powders are best used in spells. You can use them to bless a work place by making a blessing powder. The only way they can really effectivly be used in rituals is when they are made in the rituals. For example at Maine Pagan Unity Day after making a love and protect my love incense and powder in my workshop I had some left that I went outside and sprinkled on the ground as a thank you. It was part of the ritual of friendship in the making of the blends and sprinkling it was a thank you and a spreading of the blessings.

You can use them in many different types of spells. In candle magic you roll a candle in the powder as part of dressing the candles. In packets you feed the packets with the powder to keep them going and you can also add them to the packets in the process of making the packet. You can sprinkle them around the house for protection or removal depending on the powder. There are some who even use them in freezing spells and jar spells. In essence you could use them in any spell work you can imagine. With all magic the only limit to their use is your imagination.

Today I am going to be reviewing a phenomenal product by Doctor Hawk.  I’ve already spoken about his Achilles Balm which for me works better than Neosporin on any of my wounds and has also helped my rashes and issues with ingrown toenails.  This product is event better than that. THis is one that I wish more people knew about. This is one I am actually going to be keeping in stock on a regular basis.

I have a few chronic issues for my health that run in my family.  Sinus pressure and pain (with out obvious congestion) is a big one and personally I have had issues with my ears in various forms since I was less than 3 months old.  My ear problems have run from chronic ear infections to both excessive earwax and too little earwax.  Though I would have to say my most annoying problem from my ears would be the constant ringing when there is silence.

I also tend to get any and all versions of the cold and flu that go around.  As an asthmatic (its mild but colds and flus make it worse) I am open to these issues more than other people (at least that is how it seems to me).  For myself because of the asthma I often get a large build up of phlegm and it can be difficult to deal with without the use of Mucinex or other over the counter medicines.  Not so much any more.

This medicine the Formula 4T3 has created a major change in my life. I can appreciate the silence of the night.  I can site outside and listen to the wind, water, and crickets without any issue.  I can actually be at peace with the true music of the night.  For once I can enjoy true natural silent meditation in nature and really get something out of it.

I no longer have a constant state of ringing in my ears.  I can sleep every night easily.  If I wake up and there is no music going I can fall asleep without dreading the return of ringing ears.   I’ll put it this way.  The ringing in my ears was so bad that if there was silence it would make itself louder and louder until it was almost deafening.  Now the only time this seems to happen at all is if I missed a dose.

I do not have the phlem build up that I used to.  I actually seem to hardly ever need to use either of my inhalers anymore.  They seem to only be required once a day for the controller (instead of twice) and the as needed only when its unbearably humid or I have been much more physically active than my norm.  I dont need to use it when I vacuum at work anymore.  This is a good thing.

I was getting two sinus headaches a week with pain.  Since I have started this treatment there are no sinus pressure headaches.  The sinus pressure and pain were actually a new thing for me.  They were bad.  It was so painful that I only felt that sleeping and lying down could cure it.  Again it seems that the only time I get these issues anymore is if I happen to miss a dose.  This past weekend I was away and forgot to take it with me.  Monday I had the onset of a sinus pressure headache.  To fix that I took a dose of this and it went away almost instantly.

These are some of the main physical ailment ways that this product has helped me heal and be more aware of myself and my life.  There are several mental health issues that I deal with on a daily basis as well.  Some of these issues were the inspiration for several of my aromatherapy baths.  However I have found that this has done the job very well.

Since taking this I am starting to remember my dreams more often and dream more vividly.  My emotions are much stronger than they have been in a while. I feel my power as a witch flowing much freer than it has in a long time.  I feel like I am returning to myself.  Which may be one of the unknown spiritual effects of this product.

I can’t comment on the spiritual aspects of this product myself as I have not used it for that purpose yet.  Doctor Hawk’s products all come with a practical aspect as well as a spiritual aspect to them.  For him it is essential to treat the whole person.  This is one of the reasons I recommend you talk to him and ask about his products yourself.  He really is a true Root Doctor who treats the body and spirit as if they are one for they really are one.

Book Review: The Wiccan Wellness Book

Wiccan Wellness Book

The Wiccan Wellness book is one of a kind. If you are looking just for spells and rituals for healing then this book is not for you. If you are looking for herbal remedies and solutions to your health issues this is not the book for you. If you are looking for ways to increase your health in all areas mental, physical, and spiritual this book is perfect for you. While the author comes from a Wiccan perspective the book is geared towards any and all philosophies or religious views. The goal of the book is to provide simple tools to allow a person to have optimum health in the mind, the body, and the spirit.

Right now my biggest complaint is that the book seemed to be too short and was missing a conclusion. I felt like the final chapter just left us hanging for more. I wasn’t thinking another chapter, even though another chapter would have been useful but maybe a final word or two to tie everything we had read about in the book together. It just ended with no real tie to put it all together.

The rest of the book is great. There is excellent material in here. Several of the tips in one chapter have already made a huge difference in the way I approach my day to day tasks and my day job at the local CVS. It may be small but there is alot of information packed into this one book.

The book begins with an introduction. Here the author covers both her reasons for writing the book and how she connected her spiritual path with health, healing, and wellness. It is also here that we learn that the author wrote this book not just focusing on Wiccans but having it be open to any one open to holistic natural healing and natural spirituality.

The first chapter really sets the tone for the book. This is where the real concept of holistic person is. Right of the bat the book hits you with the biggest concept of all: Thou Art God and Thou Art Goddess. This is part of the concept core to the book. The belief that we have an inner divine spark and we can control how we heal and live. This is also how we learn we can serve the Gods we work with through our daily lives by honoring that divine spark within you.

The author gives us a few questions to think about right off the bat like how we react to stress and what sorts of foods are we eating in our diet. She asks us to take a look at how we stand and what our relationship with our body and the world really is at this point in our lives. After this the author discusses the Wiccan Rede and how it can be a part of healing the world around you and yourself. The chapter ends with a definition of what the path to health really entails.

The second chapter is one that you don’t find in a lot of health books. This is a chapter on using writing or more specifically journaling as a healing tool for the mind, body, and spirit. I’ll be honest. I originally laughed at the chapter concept having done some health journals before I wasn’t convinced that it deserved to be in a book on wellness and healing.

After reading through the exercises I can see how it works in this context. This journal is more than a healing journal. It is a connection to your mind, your body, and your spirit. I found the spirit letter to be the most useful of the exercises in that section of the book. It is something I am going to start including in my practice. There are other exercises in this section that may be useful to others. Some I have tried and some I have not. I do advise at least trying the daily journal exercise if nothing else.

The exercise chapter is the third chapter in this book. The author gives us right off the bat an exercise to do in order to deal with the excuses people seem to come up with for not exercising. This was something I found useful as I know I am guilty of coming up with excuses not to do exercise.

The second part of the chapter goes over several types of exercises that can be done. Some at home with DVD’s and minimal or no tools and others with joining classes or going to the gym. Two of the exercises she mentions I have to support which are the martial arts and yoga both of which have spiritual traditions behind them in many cases, which means you can exercise your body, your mind through awareness, and your spirit all together.

Chapter four is the one that I got the most about. This is a chapter about healthy surroundings. This chapter covers a technique/style that is often used called Feng Shui. That was something I expected. What I didn’t expect was a detailed section on bringing joy, happiness and well being into a day job like working for CVS.

The section on bringing well-being into my day to day job was wonderful. The author mentioned two things that I took to heart and am now trying to do in work. Each of these items was a simple task that doesn’t take much time. Together they provide a powerful spiritual and emotional exercise for day to day life.

The first is dedicate one single task during the work day to service of the Gods. The other is find one thing positive about your job (not thinking about paychecks, but other aspects like something you enjoy about your job). For me when I realized why I enjoyed my job at CVS was because I get to help people I was able to find much more enjoyment out of my shifts and it feels much more productive while I work. I have not done a task with the Gods in mind yet but I am going to try to do that during my next shift.

The fifth chapter is one that I found very useful. This was the section on versions of natural healthcare and health alternatives. Here the author covers several methods of health services some that we can practice ourselves with little or no formal training and others that require certifications and or licenses. The best part of this chapter was that is covers some traditional methods like acupuncture and herbalism but also covered Reiki and Polarity therapy. With each section of type of natural health care the author provides a resource so that you can find a practitioner in your area!

My favorite sections of the book though are the last two chapters. Chapter six is all about finding an herbal spirit partner to do healing work with. For me this gave me several ideas on ways I can connect to herbs I use in healing oils, incense, and tinctures better. For anyone interested in working with plants as magical and spiritual aids this chapter is really for you.

The final chapter is a chapter on several different healing rituals. This is where the religious/and spiritual connection really fits into the book. Most of these rituals have a Wiccan flair to them as the author is Wiccan herself. However if you don’t follow Wicca but work with other Gods or No Gods you can still work many of these rituals with minor alterations.

In the end the best thing I can say about this book is not only does the author have an extensive bibliography she also added a book or two at the end of each chapter for the material in that chapter. This is where I am most impressed as there were minimal Wicca/Witchcraft books referenced and many healing and health or spiritual journals and books listed showing that author really did take a wide approach to spirituality, healing, and the connections that exist there.
